Biography

Lise Beaulieu was born in Prince George, BC, Canada. Her first 5 years were spent living with her large French-Canadian family in staff housing at a remote sawmill camp. Lise spent her childhood climbing trees & hills, digging tunnels and exploring nature with her dog. When she was confined to the indoors she would spend hours drawing; carefully rendering images from magazines or books as faithfully as she could. Her intense interest was in decoding the language of light and shadow.

Lise chose to go to community college, gaining a Visual Communications diploma. This provided a means of supporting herself and offered a creative career which spanned working for advertising agencies, being a full-time corporate creative, volunteering with non-profits, and running her own successful graphic design company. She has been fortunate to travel to exotic locations in search of adventure and perhaps meaning, making memories and documenting her journeys and peak experiences.

Lise has come full circle to her childhood interests and has devoted herself to a career as an artist, once again faithfully rendering images and memories in the hopes of using light and shadow to construct vivid and enchanting narratives.  What she loves becomes the themes of her work so her paintings are filled with the natural world, physical movement and the ethereal realms.

Artist Statement

Turning memories into living stories and giving animation to my plywood surface is what drives my creative process. There is a knife edge to balance the accuracy of the environment with the drama of a great story and the beauty of the moment.

There is a desire to bring lasting beauty into the world. Acts of devotion to the image, the memory and the story.
